‘Track Replaces ‘Water’ on Day Out!!

Age Group Squad decided to park their ‘flippers and floats’ on Saturday 24th October and head for Bangor where they took on the four wheel version of RACING…………..in an afternoon of Go-Karting, a bonding session organised by Age Group Squad Rep, Colin Russell. The children left the Leisureplex in convoy and made their way to the Eddie Irvine Sports Centre.

An event thoroughly enjoyed by all……….There were many laughs along the way, not least when one of the pack asked if they would be using pedals! to get their Go-Kart around the circuit!

The children were as competitive on the track as they are in the water, and some had the whistle blown on them for getting carried away. Others could just not drive a Go-Kart and caused havoc (you know who you are!) The craic was mighty…. One competitor thought about a pit stop, but then again, maybe not  and which resulted in a multiple “fender bender”. After the qualifying heats on the track the six finalists for the Grand Prix were Mickey Mitchell, Hannah Watson, Zoe Smyth, Matthew Walker, Cameron McAteer and Callum Taylor. Medals went to Cameron McAteer, Hannah Watson and Mickey Mitchell for their performances. Runner up in the Grand Prix was Matthew Walker who had been earlier black flagged and ordered into the pits after attempting to clear the track of all other competitors but still managed a 2nd place. With a lead of 8 hundredths of a second, Mickey Mitchell  took 1st place and got himself on the podium,  Well done Mickey…..

The “oldies” also got to race showing off their talents…….. Ian Hunter, Glenn Smyth, Blair Taylor and Colin Russell. Smyth and Russell were very competitive showing some fine driving and nifty manoeuvres along the way. Oh so young at heart!

A great afternoon was had by the young swimmers…. or racers!, who all returned to Lisburn in one piece, but with many aches and pains…….

A special “Thank you “ to the parents who gave up their Saturday afternoon, provided transport and went along as chaperones, and especially to Colin Russell for organising the event which the kids all enjoyed. Vroom, Vroom………

Habit is a intersection of knowledge, skill and desire. Knowledge of what to do and why, skill is the how to do it, and the desire or motivation to want to do it. Excellence is therefore a habit.
