New Rules on Swimming Costumes – reminder!
The new FINA rules aim to ban swim suits that give an “unfair advantage” to swimmers. The new rule also bans suits extending beyond the shoulder or the ankle and any costume with zips. These rules come into effect from 1 January 2010.
A competitor must only wear one swimsuit, in one or two pieces which:
- For males shall not extend above the navel or below the knee.
- For females shall not cover the neck, extend past the shoulder, nor shall extend below the knee.
- All swimsuits shall be made of textile materials and have no zips suits.
- All swimsuits must be listed on FINA’s List of Approved Swimsuits on the day of competition and worn without modification.
